Extreme Risk Protection Orders: A Vital Option To Prevent Gun Violence
Extreme Risk laws, also known as “Red Flag” laws, provide family members or law enforcement with options to intervene when someone is showing concerning signs that they are at risk of harming themselves or someone else with a firearm.
This conversation will provide an overview of these laws, evidence of their effectiveness, and educate attendees on how to request an extreme risk order in Illinois. This community conversation will be facilitated by Everytown for Gun Safety’s “One Thing You Can Do” public awareness campaign, a grassroots movement fighting for public safety measures protecting people from gun violence. The event will also feature opening remarks from Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul.
